December ‘23 Newsletter

December recap

Peace out Santa! Hello & happy holidays from K&C!! We often feel there is an inundation of stuff leading up to Christmas, so your newsletter is a little late this month! Hopefully it catches you somewhere warm on a beach or cozy on your couch at home. Wherever it is this finds you, we hope you are taking some well-deserved rest and recuperation from the happiest- yet often busiest- time of the year!

We hope this week has found you surrounded by loved ones- bellies full of sugar and drink. We hope that you have no idea what day it is and haven't signed in to your work inbox. It's how it is supposed to be!

Wherever you are and whatever you celebrate, we hope all is well with you and yours, and wish the very best final days of 2023.

🏋️🍎 resolutions 🍎🏋️

Are your New Year's resolutions ready?? Are you a New Year's resolution kinda person? Though we think you are perfect just the way you are, here are some ideas if you need help resoluting (it's a word, just trust me):

[1] Weekly Meal Planning! We have made a printable guide here to help you get started. Need some meal inspiration? Check out our favs: Gathered Nutrition & Half Baked Harvest

[2] Read x amount of books in 2024. Follow along on our newsletter for monthly recommendations! Pro Tip: purchase a Kindle & get library books delivered directly to it through our awesome local libraries. Reach out if you need help figuring out how to do so!

[3] Reduce screentime. Put those iPhone alerts on. If you are like me and immediately click ‘Ignore Today’, consider deleting the app or putting your phone in another room at night.

[4] Increase physical activity. At Keller & Corbett, we like to do lots of different things for physical activity. Alyssa is a huge Pure Barre class fan and year-round pickleball. Kate & Clare like to Peloton & pilates. We highly recommend Melissa Wood Health's workouts. You can never go wrong with the Yoga Studio's hot yoga- it is hot & dark so you can even lay on your mat and feel like you got a good sweat in!

[5] Save money. LMK when you figure out this one!

📍 community updates 📍

📍[1] Carmel - Carmel announced plans for a $13 million expansion of the Monon Greenway scheduled to begin next spring. The greenway will be expanded from 14 feet to 140 feet between Walnut Street & City Center Drive and will have playground and public gathering spaces. This will be flanked by the future Great American Songbook Museum which is hoped to include a food hall. What will they think of next ?!

📍[2] Downtown Indy - Hendricks Commercial Properties, the group responsible for high-quality local projects like Bottleworks & Ironworks at Keystone, have a whopping $600 million plan to redevelop Circle Centre Mall. Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett considers this to be one of the most important development projects the city has taken on in decades.

📍[3] Fletcher Place - If you have been in Fletcher Place, you have likely seen the vacant former Trinity Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church at 701 E. McCarty St. In exciting news, the church is being turned into Lille Bonne Community Cafe- a place featuring a coffee shop, venue for yoga classes, art classes, live music, speaking events, and private meetings.

📍[4] Carmel - Ash & Elm Cider Co. plans to open a restaurant and tasting room next year at 525 North End Drive- in Carmel's new $100 million mixed-use development.

🌎🎆  new years traditions around the globe 🎆🌎

Please know that this section is very lightly researched. These are subject to be completely or partially wrong. But, I think they are fun!

🌎 Scotland - To ensure good luck, have one guest leave just before midnight and knock on the door as the new year begins for a ‘first footing’. Bonus points if the visitor is a dark-haired male with a symbolic piece of coal, shorebread, salt, black bun, and whisky.

🌎 Japan - Buddhist temples ring bells 108 times on NYE signifying the 108 types of early desires. Each bell strike will remove one desire.

🌎 Greece - Similar to Scotland, there is a Greek tradition about the first person to enter a house on New Year's. The guest will either bring good luck or bad luck to the household. After entering, they need to step on something made of iron so the family will be strong throughout the new year. The next guest to enter is a person chosen with a fresh and clean spirit. This person takes a pomegranate and smashes it against the door. The more seeds scattered, the more luck for the household's year. There's more! Many households will hang onions (symbolizing fertility) on their doors hoping everyone inside will experience growth and rebirth in the New Year.

🌎 Phillipines - Celebrations feature round items, symbolizing prosperity. Households pick 12 round fruits for each month of the year. People fill their pockets with coins and wear polka dots for good luck.

🌎 Denmark - Danes jump into the new year by standing on chairs or couches to leap off when midnight hits. If you forget to jump at midnight, a year of bad luck for you!

🌎 Spain - eat 12 grapes while a bell rings 12 times. oh, and while wearing red underwear!

🌎 Latin America - Wear underwear the color of what you want in the new year. Fret not, here is a run-down:

- Red: The color of passion, often associated with love and allure, enticing the prospect of new romance.

- Yellow: Symbolizing luck, fostering aspirations for fortuitous outcomes.

- Green: Reflective of wealth and financial prospects, attracting prosperity.

- Pink: Linked with fun and friendship, aiding in building new relationships.

- White: Signifying new beginnings, peace, and/or prosperity, creating fresh starts in relationships or careers.

- Blue: Tied to health, bringing you a healthy mind, body, and soul.

Celebrate on, World!!!!
